Athletic stun Saints

Town see off Royal in Woods Cup

He hit a 92nd minute winner to send Athletic through to the last four of the Friends Provident International competition.

Martin Cowin, Darren Shields and Mikey Callister netted the others for Athletic as the Saints, winners in 2013, were sent packing in a seven goal thriller.

Holders Peel had no such problems with an 8-1 success over promotion chasing Braddan.

Dominic McGreevey, Ryan Holdaway, Daniel Bell, Ashley Webster, Billy Kennaugh and Mark Kelly were on target for the westerners and there was also two own goals.

Jamie Spicer scored a late consolation for Braddan, who were 3-0 down inside the opening 18 minutes.

Foxdale set up a western derby semi-final after a 2-1 home victory over Douglas & District.

Jay Chatwood and Charlie Harrison scored first half goals to put them in charge.

Darren Armstrong saved an Aaron Costain penalty and Daniel Stewart Clague gave D&D hope but they couldn’t force extra-time.

In the GH Corlett Woods Cup quarter-final, Castletown turned on the style to see off newly promoted Douglas Royal 4-1 at the Stadium.

Dan McLaughlin scored twice and was joined on the scoresheet by Connor Smith and Aaron Field.
