'Tough times are nothing new', candidates told

A former chief minister says every parliament has its own troubles to face.

Following the close of nominations for next month's House of Keys general election, Donald Gelling says while many people consider the Isle of Man is facing one of the toughest economic situations for some time, similar difficulties have been experienced in the past.

He says back in 1986 the Isle of Man had very little money in the bank, capital projects like schools were being built on very small budgets, and a large part of Douglas promenade was boarded up.
