Youth group's recommendations revealed

Young people in the Isle of Man could have a greater variety of activities to look forward to in the future, thanks to a new "Think Tank".

The group, made up of MHKs, Douglas councillors and an Onchan commissioner, has come up with 14 recommendations to improve the Island's youth provision.

Suggestions include using the old prison and hospital as gathering places and expanding the Youth Bus network, which currently operates in the south of the Island.

These sixth form students from Ballakermeen High School would welcome more activities (play attached audio file):

The "Think Tank" (pictured) was formed by Rushen MHK Juan Watterson, who told Manx Radio about some of its aims:

"Our recommendations include the creation of a central point of contact so young people can find out what's going on, and the expansion of a youth bus network around the Isle of Man.

"We would also like to see more focused key performance indicators for the Department of Tourism and Leisure and the Department of Education, who really should be driving this debate, and we would like to make sure they consult properly with various groups of young people around the Island so that what they provide is what the young people want."
