World leaders mull Manx pupils' hopes

Northern students help draw the future

The aspirations of more than 200 Manx children were shared with world leaders at last week's World Economic Forum in Davos.

Students from northern primary schools contributed drawings to a global survey entitled Drawing the Future.

The pupils from Laxey, Sulby, Bunscoill Rhumsaa, the Dhoon, Jurby, Andreas and Ballaugh were among 20,000 taking part worldwide.

Each was asked to draw a picture in response to the age old question: 'what do you want to be when you grow up?'

Results were then analysed by experts - who found gender stereotypes and family traditions had the biggest influence on children's hopes.

In the Isle of Man, the most popular vocation for boys was a professional footballer, and a vet for girls.
