Work to replace crossing on Victoria Street starts today

DoI says it will become 'traffic calming measure'

Twenty-weeks of road works in one of the busiest areas of Douglas town centre is getting underway from today.

The Department of Infrastructure is replacing the pedestrian crossing in Victoria Street - it claims it will enhance accessibility for all road users and will act as a traffic calming measure.

However, a row erupted this morning after the taxi rank was coned off whilst the work was ongoing.

The Department says it will look again at its communication with taxi drivers but Gary Saunders of the DOI says a solution has been found:

Businesses in the area will remain open throughout.
