Gabby Corkish delivered 'vital assistance' on 18 May
A staff member at the Welcome Centre has been recognised for her 'extraordinary actions' after helping to save the life of a man in the Sea Terminal car park.
When the cruise ship passenger suffered a heart attack on 18 May, Gabby Corkish promptly called for an ambulance, assisted with the use of a defibrillator, and stayed with the gentleman until help arrived.
It's said the man's family, who were non-English speakers, struggled to understand the defibrillator's instructions and Gabby helped to provide 'vital assistance'.
The man, a German national, was a passenger aboard the Holland America vessel, Rotterdam.
He's since been transferred to a hospital in Liverpool and is recovering.
The Department for Enterprise has thanked Gabby for her 'outstanding service'.
The public access defibrillator was stored at the front of the building and provided by the Craig's Heartstrong Foundation charity.
