Waste charges cited in Marown rate rise

Rates in Marown will rise by an average of just over £20 per household for the coming financial year.

Chairman of Marown Commissioners Paul Craine says the increase has been made necessary by the Department of Infrastructure’s cut in its waste disposal subsidy, which will cost the parish an additional £20,000 over the year.

The current rate of 122p in the pound will go up to 134p.

According to Mr Craine, the local authority is holding the rates at the same level as last year but as it doesn't have a separate waste charge, it is having to pass on the extra costs of waste disposal, as it is simply impossible to absorb the increase.
