Warning to mobility scooter owners

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading has issued a warning about a faulty batch of mobility scooters which could potentially catch fire.

Users of Days Healthcare Strider models are being warned they could overheat, potentially causing serious injury.

The United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has been told about an incident in which the electronic control unit on a scooter overheated.

No one was hurt, but smoke came out from under the rear bodywork and it's claimed overheating of the control unit could cause the insulation on the cables around it to melt.

Strider scooters are manufactured in Taiwan by Kymco and are distributed throughout Europe by Days Healthcare.

Anyone who is concerned should contact Days Healthcare on 01656 664700 to arrange for a free replacement ECU to be fitted, or speak to the supplier of their scooter.

It's being stressed the problem only affects scooters within a certain range of serial numbers.
