Vulnerable people will remain protected from gas disconnections this winter

But MHK says he still has 'deep' concerns over constituents facing supply issues

Vulnerable people on the Isle of Man will remain protected from having their gas supply cut off over the winter.

Legislation – preventing disconnections for certain residents including those over pensionable age and those with children under the age of six – was introduced in January this year.

Following review the Gas Regulation (Prevention of Disconnections) Order 2024 will continue through to 2025.

Monitoring will continue throughout the winter to ensure the order continues to provide ‘adequate protection’.

Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan said: “The Council of Ministers remains committed to ensuring vulnerable individuals are adequately protected.

We will continue to review the impact of this legislation and work with stakeholders to provide additional advice if needed.”

However Onchan MHK Rob Callister told Manx Radio he’s ‘deeply concerned’ that some of his constituents are still facing challenges with their energy provision:

Anyone who is struggling to pay their utility bills is asked to contact their supplier directly.

The Office of Fair Trading also has a debt counselling service – you can find out more by emailing iomfairtrading@gov.im or phoning 01624 686500.
