Volunteers wanted for prison board

A bid to recruit people to ensure prisoners' rights are upheld is under way.

The Manx government wants to appoint individuals to an independent board to monitor their treatment, accommodation and the standard of care they receive.

It's looking for a fresh intake of 'community spirited' individuals to make regular tours of the Jurby prison, and inspect police and court cells.

Prospective board members should have good life experience, and the time and energy to devote to monthly meetings and prison visits.

Application packs are available from the Department of Home Affairs in Woodbourne Road, Douglas.
