Villlage holds dedication ceremony for memorial

A young girl whose great-great uncle was killed in World War II was the first person to lay a wreath on a new memorial in St John's.

Doona Leece placed the poppies on the marble tablet which is situated alongside the main road and bears the names of all those from the parish who lost their lives in the two biggest conflicts of the 20th century.

After the the traditional two-minute silence there was a simple dedication ceremony, for which a large crowd gathered to hear prayers and reflect on sacrifices made.

Captain of the parish John Kennaugh says it's the first time there has been a memorial specifically for St John's:
