Views wanted on Manx Care 'duty' of transparency with patients

Consultation on proposed duty of candour for healthcare board

Feedback is being sought on laws which would require Manx Care to be open and honest with those using the Island's healthcare services.

A public consultation on a duty of candour for the newly-formed health board has opened.

It's asking Manx residents for comments on proposed legislation that would give Manx Care a legal duty to be transparent with patients, particularly when things go wrong.

The rules would give the organisation a duty of candour following incidents resulting in death or severe harm, leading to an increase in treatment or resulting in an impairment lasting more than 28 days.

The consultation is open until 22 January and is available through the government's consultation hub.

It's intended the laws would come into force on 1 April to coincide with the establishment of Manx Care.
