37-year-old threw meal at wall 'out of anger'
A Douglas man has been fined £300 after an ‘unpleasant incident’ at Police Headquarters.
Matthew David Prendergast, of Marathon Road, caused damage to a police cell on 24 July after throwing a hot meal against the wall.
The 37-year-old, who had been arrested on unrelated matters, then threw a cup of water over a police officer.
He later pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse the prosecutor told the court: “Clearly this sort of behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated against police officers.”
Prendergast’s advocate told the court: “He has acted, whilst intoxicated, out of anger.”
Fining him, and ordering him to pay £150 in compensation and £125 in prosecution costs, Magistrates told him: “This is going to be the most expensive meal you’ve ever had in your life.”
