20-year-old's advocate tells court she was in 'acute distress' at time
An Onchan woman has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after assaulting three police officers in 11 days.
Charlotte Roseen Kelly, of School Road, was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse after being arrested twice in September.
Police were called to reports of a fight between two women, just after 8pm, on 14 September; when they arrived they found the 20-year-old shouting and screaming.
As she was being arrested she kicked a police officer in the thigh.
On 25 September officers were called to First Avenue in Onchan, at 2pm, after reports that Kelly was fighting again; when they arrived she was shouting, screaming and swearing.
Reception aged children, who were in a school playground nearby, had to be taken away from the area due to the incident.
As she was being arrested Kelly kicked an officer in the stomach; at Police Headquarters she also kicked an officer in the head.
Kelly admitted two offences of being drunk and disorderly and three of assaulting police officers.
Her advocate told the court his client was ‘deeply ashamed’ of how she'd behaved adding she’d been self-medicating with alcohol due to difficult personal circumstances.
“I would ask you to recognise that this is effectively a young lady who has gone through hell,” he told the court.
Adding that she’d been in ‘acute distress’ at the time he said she was ‘lashing out’ at whoever was around her.
Ordering Kelly to carry out 240 hours of community service Magistrates told her: "The Isle of Man takes assaults on emergency service workers very seriously."
A two-year probation order was also imposed and Kelly must pay prosecution costs of £175.
