Unite accuses DOI of unfair dismissal of airport security staff

Claims Minister and CEO are complicit by 'silence and inaction'

Unite the Union is accusing the Department of Infrastructure of unfair dismissal of the airport security section.

In a statement this morning, the Union claims Airport Director Ann Reynolds is carrying out the move under the guise of redundancy.

Regional Officer for Unite, Debbie Halsall, claims the move is being made because security staff could not accept losing £15,000 a year to make savings of £250,000.

Mrs Halsall claims the savings were identified as only being applicable to the aviation security section and not to Mrs Reynolds or the management structure to share across the airport.

She states Mrs Reynolds wants to be a contract manager for any successful security firm that responds to the tender and that the travelling public are being left protected by an inferior replacement service. She also suggests DOI Minister Ray Harmer and CEO Nick Black are "complicit in this by their inaction to stop the madness which has taken over in the department"

Her statement ends, "the Public Services Commission is risking dispute from the two recognised trade unions, Unite and Prospect."
