Union Mills man headbutted police officer

Thirty-year-old allegedly attacked his girlfriend

A Union Mills man who headbutted a police officer after allegedly attacking his girlfriend has been remanded at the Isle of Man prison.

Thirty-year-old Ryan Kneen of Close Y Lhergy appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of assault on a police officer and resisting police, but pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm to a woman.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the court Kneen was drinking with his girlfriend and two other men at a flat in Royal Court in Onchan on 19 November.

At 3am, the woman called police about a violent incident and when officers arrived Kneen became aggressive and shouted at them to leave.

When he was arrested, his girlfriend told officers he’d grabbed her by the neck and pinned her onto a bed while the other men watched, too intimidated to intervene.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case, saying it was so serious Kneen would have to be committed to appear in a Court of General Gaol Delivery.

A bail application wasn’t granted and magistrates remanded Kneen in custody – he’s next due to appear on 27 January.
