Union leader calls for Chief Minister to resign

Cannan insists there has been progress after Unite boss says "you've done nothing"

The head of a union that represents public and private sector workers on the Isle of Man is calling for the chief minister to resign following this week's budget.

Debbie Halsall of Unite challenged Alfred Cannan during Manx Radio's Budget Special, questioning what progress his administration has made.

It follows concerns over the impact this week's budget will have on those in the 'squeezed middle'.

Ms Halsall says Unite's members aren't happy with Mr Cannan's performance:

Responding to Ms Halsall, the chief minister insists his administration has taken the Island forward in the last two and a half years.

Ms Halsall also cited business closures and the economy among her members' concerns, but Mr Cannan told the programme around 700 jobs have been created during his administration.

He says there have been positive changes:
