Union calls for non-essential school activity to be cancelled

NASUWT also wants mandatory face coverings

Compulsory safety measures – including cancelling non-essential activities – should be introduced in Island schools.

That's the view of a teaching union which is calling on government to do more to stop cases of Covid-19 rising.

The NASUWT says infection appears to be driven by pupils and staff and wants mandatory face coverings and a pause on whole school assemblies.

National executive member Damien McNulty says people must take these measures seriously to avoid following in Northern Ireland's footsteps:
