'Unacceptable' waiting lists revealed

Eight-year wait for some patients

Patients are still enduring 'unacceptably long' waits to see consultants at Noble's Hospital, the health minister has admitted.

The latest data on waiting lists has been published following a question in the House of Keys from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.

Consultants were under the spotlight last month, when it was revealed that some high-earners were taking home as much as a quarter of a million pounds per year.

Now new figures from the Department of Health and Social Care show almost half of outpatient consultants at Noble's have an average waiting list of more than 18 weeks - the target time set by NHS England.

One consultant, a general surgeon, has left patients waiting more than eight years.

Almost three-quarters of patients who have been referred to a specialist by their GP are currently on a list - that's more than 7,000 Islanders awaiting an appointment.
