The House of Keys is sitting today, and there’s plenty for MHKs to get their teeth into.
Questions will focus mainly on medical issues, with DHSS Minister Eddie Teare facing a grilling about the Island’s opthamology services, as well as patient transfer taxis.
The Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander debate rumbles on with questions from Michael MHK David Cannan, while North Douglas MHK John Houghton will continue to ask about Greenlight Television, which recently lost the contract to film the TT.
The Steam Packet Company’s freight pricing increase, due to take effect next year, will also come under scrutiny as Onchan MHK Peter Karran quizzes DTI Minister David Cretney about the rise.
But what’s not on the order paper could be even more interesting.
One of the main topics for debate would, under normal circumstances, have been the announcement by the United Kingdom about a review of financial regulations in the Crown Dependencies.
However, it wasn’t until late yesterday afternoon that UK Chancellor Alistair Darling unveiled his study, which is due to finish next Spring.
As such, MHKs won’t have had time to prepare questions to go onto the order paper, although such an important subject seems very likely to be raised in some form.
