Tynwald approves Post Office five-year plan

Vote comes as strike action looms

Tynwald has voted in favour of the Isle of Man Post Office's five-year business case, and the report of the board's strategic recommendations.

After three hours of debate, which saw many key members criticise the conduct of the Post Office executives, all three sets of amendments failed to win support.

The vote was 15 to eight in the House of Keys and five to three in the Legislative Council.

It comes as talks between the Post Office and the Communication Workers' Union are set to take place tomorrow.

Around 200 postal workers are expected to stage a two day strike on Thursday and Friday of this week.

All political members from the sponsoring department of the Post Office, in Enterprise, spoke out against Ms Edge - including former Postal Worker Tim Crookall:
