Two teenagers in court over £70,000 of cannabis and MDMA

Ramsey pair remanded in custody

Two teenagers have appeared in court over £70,000 worth of cannabis and ecstasy.

Matthew John George Williams of May Hill and Michael Peter Gawne of Waterloo Road – both of Ramsey - appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

Eighteen-year-old Mr Gawne pleaded not guilty to producing 1,466 half-tablets of MDMA and 1.7 kilos of cannabis.

Seventeen-year-old Mr Williams hasn’t entered pleas to two charges of being concerned with the supply of cannabis and ecstasy.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood told the hearing the ecstasy had a street value of up to £21,690 and the cannabis which arrived in the post was worth £51,000.

Mrs Hughes declined jurisdiction in the case, saying both men would have to be committed to a Court of General Gaol Delivery.

She refused to grant bail after an application by Mr Gawne’s advocate, and both men were remanded in custody at the Isle of Man Prison.

Mr Williams is next due to appear in court on 15 December, while Mr Gawne will appear again on 5 January.
