Two people assisted out of smoke-logged property in Douglas

Structure fire saw section of Peel Road closed on Tuesday

Two people received treatment from paramedics following a structure fire on Peel Road in Douglas yesterday afternoon (7 January).

A section of the road was closed for almost two hours whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

Using breathing equipment, officers searched the smoke-logged building and assisted the pair out of the property where they were seen to by ambulance crews.

Officers say thanks to the quick actions of the occupant, who was able to shut internal doors, the majority of the fire damage was confined to the bedroom area.

Crews used thermal imaging equipment to check for fire spread and ventilated the property with a positive pressure fan.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says it highlights the importance of working smoke alarms and how effective closed doors can be in stopping the spread of a fire.
