Trio accused of smuggling £33,000 of cocaine

UK group appears in court over drugs charges

Two women from Chester and a man from Liverpool have appeared in court charged over an alleged plot to smuggle £33,000 of cocaine to the Isle of Man.

Twenty-four-year-old Dani Leigh Sharp, 23-year-old Dominique Carline and 29-year-old Daniel James Patterson appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Both women pleaded not guilty to producing cocaine and possessing the class A drug with intent to supply it, while Mr Patterson entered no plea to producing drugs.

All of the alleged offences are said to have happened at the Sea Terminal in Douglas on 17 October, and Carline admitted drink-driving on that date.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Mr Patterson was a foot passenger on the same ferry sailing the women boarded in a Fiat 500 car.

She said police searched the vehicle as it arrived in Douglas and found 300 grammes of cocaine – both women denied any knowledge of the drugs.

Magistrates said the case was too serious for them to hear, and the trio would be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery on a future date.

All three were remanded in custody to appear again on 19 November.
