Andreas man appears in court
A tree surgeon from Andreas has been warned one more motoring offence will see him lose his licence – after being caught without insurance three times in three years.
Twenty-two-year-old Jaye Nicholas Martin Birchall, of Ballalough, admitted driving with no insurance when he appeared at Douglas courthouse.
Prosecution advocate Becky Cubbon withdrew a charge of failing to produce insurance documents.
She told the hearing Birchall was stopped by police on the Laxey coast road, near Dhoon School, at 8.35pm on 28 November.
Birchall told police the white Renault van belonged to his grandfather and he was covered under his policy.
However, checks with the insurance company showed a cover note issued to his grandfather didn't in fact cover him.
His advocate told the court it had been a misunderstanding which Birchall had quickly put right.
Magistrates imposed a £400 fine and ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs, as well as putting four penalty points on his licence.
Noting he had a total of 11 points, they warned him a single driving offence in future would mean he'd lose his licence.
