Appeal Court blocks opposite sex parterships
The Isle of Man remains the only place in the British Isles where heterosexual couples can have a civil partnership, after a landmark judgment at the UK Court of Appeal.
London couple Rebecca Steinfield and Charles Keidan challenged a ruling they did not meet the legal requirement of being the same sex.
Three judges agreed their human rights may have been breached, but by a two-to-one margin, said the UK government be allowed more time to consider the wider future of civil partnerships.
Since July 2016, the Isle of Man has allowed both gay and straight couples rights to the same legal union.
