Townshend talks of Palace inspiration

The Isle of Man's part in inspiring one of Britain's greatest rock musicians during his formative years was featured on a radio interview yesterday.

Pete Townshend, guitarist and songwiter with The Who, appeared on BBC 6Music's 'The First Time'.

In the show artists talk about the music which inspired them throughout their careers.

Pete Townshend told 6Music's Matt Everitt it was seeing his father play in a band at the Palace ballroom in Douglas in the 1950s which made him want to get into 'showbusiness'.

He says he was watching the band, when two girls came down, sat either side of him, and began chatting to each other:
