Three-year ban and fine for Ramsey drink driver

Thirty-six-year-old appeared at Douglas courthouse

A woman who was so drunk her car mounted a kerb in Ramsey has been banned from getting behind the wheel for three years.

Thirty-six-year-old Vicky Gaines of Auldyn Meadow Drive in Ramsey appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

She’d previously admitted drink driving in a VW Golf on Lezayre Road on 1 July.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing members of the public called police just after 3pm when they spotted her car weaving across the road and mounting the pavement.

Officers went to her home and noticed she had slurred speech, glazed eyes and was unsteady on her feet.

After admitting she’d been driving her car, she failed a breath test and was arrested.

At police headquarters, specialist breath testing equipment wasn’t working but a urine sample showed she was more than two and a half times over the legal alcohol limit.

She was fined £1,700 and banned from driving for three years.

Magistrates also ordered her to pay £125 towards prosecution costs and attend a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
