Terminal price buys stake in 'northern powerhouse'

Ringfencing of £3.5 million to buy land for development

Buying a new Liverpool ferry terminal would make the Island central to the so-called 'northern powerhouse'.

That's the intimation made by Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne.

Speaking on Manx Radio, he explained his motives for ringfencing a budget of £3.5 million to purchase land at Princes Half-Tide Dock on the Mersey.

It's near the current landing stage at Pier Head - which he says 'maroons' visitors from new business on the docklands.

Before any decisions are made, though, Tynwald will need to approve a long-term sea services strategy.
