Suspensions follow court appearances

Following their court appearance earlier today, the Isle of Man Government has confirmed Attorney General Stephen Harding and Deputy Assessor of Income Tax Colin Goodwin have had their employment suspended.

A Government spokesman has told Manx Radio they remain on full pay.

Stephen Harding and Colin Goodwin appeared before magistrates in Douglas this morning and were charged with a series of offences.

Tim Glover reports:-

Mr.Harding faces a total of six charges, including forgery and perjury.

Mr. Goodwin faces three charges, one jointly with Mr Harding, of acts against public justice.

The Government says the prosecution is being led by English Counsel and the Criminal Prosecutions Division within the Attorney General's Chambers has had no involvement with the investigation and consequent prosecution.

The Chief Secretary's Office is working with all relevant parties to ensure the functions of the Attorney General continue to be carried out in his absence.
