Support for young people distressed by Ramsey death

Drop-in sessions being made available across the Island this week

Extra support for young people distressed by the events leading to a current murder investigation will be available from today (2 June).

Drop-in sessions will be available throughout this week in Ramsey, Douglas and Castletown following the death of 14-year-old Christopher Benjamin Robert James McBurnie in Ramsey on Thursday, 29 May.

A murder investigation has since been launched and a juvenile is currently in custody in relation to the matter.

Inspector Paul Kemp says there are also other agencies assisting the constabulary and the wider community:

Details of this week's drop-in sessions for young people are listed below:

• Ramsey – 1pm- 5pm, Ramsey Youth Centre & Café, Waterloo Road, Ramsey, IM8 1LN

• Douglas – 1pm – 5pm, Café Larré, 1 Lord Street, Douglas, Isle of Man. IM1 2BF

• Castletown -1pm – 4pm, Isle Listen, Mill Court, Hope Street Castletown IM9 1AN

Meanwhile, officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information relating to the incident to contact Police Headquarters on 631 212 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

An online portal is also now open at mipp.police.uk which allows people to submit information - including imagery and footage - to the investigation team.

The constabulary is continuing to urge people to refrain from speculating on the circumstances around the incident and to refrain from sharing any information, imagery or footage of the incident except with Police.
