Funds to be used on health projects
It's thought a new sugar tax on the Isle of Man could generate around £300,000 a year for the Department of Health and Social Care.
It was announced yesterday (Tues 19) that the charge will come into effect from April, with that figure given as an estimated income for the coming financial year.
In the 2019/20 Budget, Treasury Minister Alf Cannan confirmed the funds from the 'Soft Drinks Industry Levy' will be used directly on health projects, to 'reduce obesity in children, promote breastfeeding and improve oral health'.
