KWC progress to competition semi-finals
A team of high school students is competing for a £10,000 investment towards an invention which could dramatically reduce drink-driving deaths.
Four pupils from King William's College have progressed to the semi-finals of the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge, a worldwide contest open to under-18s.
Their device uses a micro-biological scanner built into a car key to detect traces of alcohol and illicit drugs in a driver's sweat glands, before effectively immobilising the vehicle if illegal levels are found.
If judges give their approval, Zahra Khan, Hannah Billinghurst, Alice Morris and Christian Thomas could be heading to the USA to fight for the top prize.
