Steep sum raised in youngster's bike ride for breast cancer

An eight year old boy from Peel has raised more than £4000 for cancer research on a solo charity bike ride.

Matthew Cooil organised a sponsored cycle from Langness to the Point Ayre on Saturday, after his auntie Leonie, a teacher at Q.E 11 high school was diagnosed with breast cancer.

His youngster sister held a cake sale at St John's on the day, raising almost £500 alone.

And last week pupils and staff at the school raised £450 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer at a dress-down 'pink day'.

Matthew's ride took three-and-a-quarter hours, and by the time he reached Bride he'd made such good progress he had to stop to let the support crew catch up!

His dad Marcus says it's a huge sum to have raised and the family's very proud of him:
