Staff and residents want answers over Corrin Home finances

Public meeting called in Peel tonight

Staff and residents at the Corrin Memorial Home in Peel are calling for answers from the directors who run it.

The charitable company which operates the facility says it's no longer viable and must close in July.

A public meeting will take place in Peel tonight (17 May) to discuss the home's future.

Anne, who's a resident there, told Manx Radio it's a special place to live.

Staff member Nikita Thomas says the uncertainty has caused residents great distress.

Listen to Ewan Gawne's full report below:

The public meeting will take place tonight, at 7pm in the Corrin Hall, and will be chaired by the Captain of the Parish Alan Corlett.

Meanwhile, MHKs have also called for an explanation from Corrin Home Trustees on the facility's imminent closure.

Geoffrey Boot and Ray Harmer MHK have written a letter to the Trustees of Corrin Home expressing their concern at only recently becoming aware of the home's fate.

In it, they say residents should have been given 6 months notice and are calling for an explanation from the Trustees by 1 July.

The Glenfaba and Peel MHKs also describe a 'total disconnect' between various charities and the operating company with regard to current resource accounts.

They've urged the Trustees to attend this evening's public meeting to answer questions on their finances.
