Spat over meeting report

There is a disagreement between a Peel Commissioner and the town’s MHK over an email sent to Tynwald members about a recent public meeting to discuss the so called "toilet tax".

After a unanimous vote against the £50 charge at the end of last Tuesday’s event, meeting chairman John Kennaugh invited commissioner Ian Davison to contact politicians.

But Mr Davison's version of events at the meeting has not gone down well with Tim Crookall MHK, who says he has been misrepresented.

According to Mr Davison, Mr Crookall told the meeting he would vote for the charge and did not care what his constituents thought.

But in an email, Peel’s MHK has now categorically denied saying that.

He also denies saying anything about standing for re-election.

Mr Crookall told the meeting constituents would judge him at the next election.

He is now asking Mr Davison to correct his summary of the requisition meeting, which has been sent to Tynwald, the press and Peel commissioners.
