Sir Laurence attends commemoration

Veterans have been remembering a battle in France which changed the course of World War II.

The Battle of Arras took place shortly before Dunkirk, and saw British forces counter-attacking the Nazi army which threatened to bulldoze its way through France.

Thanks to the counter-offensive, hundreds of thousands of troops were able to retreat to the beaches where they were evacuated by a fleet of small boats.

Former Lieutenant Governor Major General Sir Laurence New is one of those who travelled to France to commemorate the events in 1940:
