Video: Simon Andrews lap draws thousands

Visitors and locals remember fallen riders

Thousands of local and visiting motorcyclists took to the Mountain Course yesterday for the annual Simon Andrews Legacy Lap.

At one point, the police described the procession of bikes as stretching from Joey's up on the Mountain Road all the way back to Kirk Michael.

The event remembers all fallen road racers, with particular focus this year on promising young riders Malachi Mitchell-Thomas and Billy Redmayne, who died earlier this year at the North West 200 and Oliver's Mount, respectively.

There was added poignancy following the deaths of TT competitors Dwight Beare and Paul Shoesmith in separate incidents on Saturday.

Organisers were also keen to mark the loss felt by families of all riders who have lost their lives on the roads - embracing the wider motorcycling family.
