Shifting pattern of internal migration

More work in capital, fewer live there

More Island workers earn their living in Douglas than five years ago - but the number of people living in the capital has fallen.

The 2016 Isle of Man Census reveals a 3.5% drop in the population of Douglas - it's fallen by more almost 1000 since 2011, to just under 27,000,

However, inward migration figures show the capital's population swells susbtantially on week days, when an extra 10,000 commute to their jobs.

The population of the Island's other main towns has expanded, with growth in a number of rural areas too.
