Gomes unrepentent over tribunal rap

The former Island vicar heavily criticised by a church tribunal has hit back in outspoken terms.

Dr Jules Gomes has rejected its findings - that he lacked compassion in his dealings with people, causing them serious harm and damaging the reputation of the church.

A two day hearing upheld a series of allegations over Dr Gomes' conduct while vicar of Arbory and Castletown.

He's accused Bishop Robert Paterson of taking a dictatorial line on discipline issues, tantamount to Sharia law - the strict legal code of Islam governing public behaviour. 

Bishop Robert says the tribunal has vindicated him - but Dr Gomes, who left his job but is still in Anglican holy orders, has refused to accept the outcome.

He says the Bishop should not have pursued such minor matters through official channels:
