Segways roll into Isle of Man

A unique form of two-wheeled transport has arrived on the Isle of Man.

The Segway is a two-wheeled electric scooter which turns and accelerates by using the movement of your body.

With a top speed of twelve miles an hour and the ability to go on or off the road, two young entrepreneurs are now starting Segway tours in various locations across the Island.

One of the founders of Segway Isle of Man, Mark Davison, says he hopes in time the Manx goverment may legalise them for use on the public roads, but at the moment they only have permission to use the machines for guided tours on Douglas Promenade, Castletown beach and some plantations.

He says the Island's independent status has made it possible for them to use the Segways here . .
