Sailing disruptions not intended

It’s too early to say whether a planned offshore wind turbine in the middle of the Irish Sea could lead to the Steam Packet’s route to Liverpool being diverted.

However, the head of the company behind the plans is hopeful the scheme will not cause disruption.

It’s one of nine developments which has been granted a license by the UK government and will provide 4.2 gigawatts of electricity to the UK’s National Grid.

Building work is expected to start in 2013.

The contract has been awarded to British Gas owner, Centrica, whose managing director of power generation is Sarwjit Sambhi.
