RNLI tribute to Peel crew

The actions of Peel's Lifeboat crew during a rescue operation last year have received high praise from the RNLI's operations manager, Michael Vlasto.

They rescued a man who was suffering from serious hypotherpia, after falling out of his canoe off Ballaugh Cronk.

The RNLI volunteers got him out of the water, treated him and arranged for a helicopter to land in the car park at Ballaugh beach, to take him to hospital, once they got him ashore.

Mr Vlasto says the crew of Paul Jones, Andrew Kelly, Sean Cannon and Andrew Quane demonstrated great seamanship, initiative, teamwork and first aid skills, which helped save a man's life.

Lifeboat media officer Malcolm Kelly says the operation, which included a skilful running aground of the boat on the beach, was carried out to the letter:
