Rethink of police complaints system

The role of Police Complaints Commissioner in the Isle of Man could be combined with another position if Tynwald backs new proposals from the Department of Home Affairs, next month.

The Minister, Martyn Quayle, has told members he will come back with a new way forward in April, after his original ideas were rejected last summer.

The department believes the Complaints Commissioner's role could be joined with that of the proposed Tynwald Commissioner for Administration, therefore ensuring a greater level of independence.

Mr Quayle (pictured) says ensuring effective investigation of complaints and maintaining independence is a difficult balance to strike, but he's confident the new proposals will achieve that aim:
