Restorative justice: an 'empowering' experience

IoM approach works well, says Victim Support

Restorative Justice on the Isle of Man has provided a unique opportunity for victims to meet those who've perpetrated crimes against them.   

Although there is no formal system in the Island, local charity Victim Support, police and probation officers set up meetings between offenders and victims on a case-by-case basis.

The charity says after understanding the impact of their crime on the victim, none of the perpetrators have gone on to re-offend.

A recent report by a committee of MPs described provision of restorative justice in the UK as a 'postcode lottery'.
