Report shows 15% drop in registered voters

13,000 reduction after housekeeping exercise

A new report from government shows just how dramatic a drop in the number of registered voters on the Island has been.

A newly-published report from the economic affairs division of the Cabinet Office called The Isle of Man in Numbers shows the number of registered electors from the past five years.

The numbers remained steady at around 60,000 until last year – when the plunged by more than 15 per cent to around 47,000.

The electoral registration unit’s ‘housekeeping’ exercise in 2015 saw many taken off the register unless they’d filled in forms to stay on it.

The figures also show the number of registered electors has recovered slightly to 49,204 since then.
