Committee wants to spend up to £9K on change
Douglas City Council will meet today (14 August) to discuss whether or not to rename the capital’s library.
It’s currently known as Henry Bloom Noble Library but that could change if the Regeneration and Community Committee get the go-ahead.
The proposal has come forward following the success of the application to turn Douglas into city.
It was presented to the committee by the city librarian.
Whilst committee members are said to be ‘supportive’ of the rebranding concerns have been raised about the associated costs as the money would have to come from general reserves.
They were also said to be concerned about ‘public perception’ of spending on non-essential items.
Between £7,740 and £9,155 could be spent if the plan gets approved.
This would cover new exterior signage and vinyl which is said to be nearing the end of its life and in need of replacement.
Howard called the Mannin Line to give his thoughts about the potential change:
But who was Henry Bloom Noble? And why are so many things named after him?
John Moss explains:
The council meeting will take place at 2.30pm.
