Ramsey's old railway line in DoI's active travel plans

Commissioners to be consulted on lighting

The Department of Infrastructure is planning to pave over the old railway track in Ramsey, to develop 'active travel' routes in the town.

With the permission of local commissioners, the department intends to resurface the line from Gardener's Lane to the junction with Station Road.

It's envisaged that this would link up to other routes on land owned by the government for access to Ramsey's schools.

Under the 'share with care principle', the track is intended for use by walkers and cyclists, but will also cater for those with 'all levels of disability'.

The DoI is also considering illuminating the route during the winter months, but will need to discuss the issue further with Ramsey commissioners, who have responsibility for lighting in the town.

The proposal was raised at the local authority's board recent meeting, with members supportive of it in principle.
