Pulrose wins design award

Douglas Corporation has scored a first by gaining an award for its Lower Pulrose estate.

'Secured by Design' is a UK-wide police initiative, managed by the Association of Chief Police Officers, that aims to 'design out' crime from the built environment.

Lower Pulrose is the first development in the Island to receive such accreditation and the result of close partnership working between the town council and the police.

The estate design ensured there were no out-of-sight areas where people could gather for disorderly or criminal purposes, and by siting open spaces in such a way they could be easily overlooked.

It also incorporated crime prevention measures such as impact-resistant doors and windows.
