Public finances 'strong' despite Covid spend, says treasury minister

Around £100 million in direct support

The treasury minister says public finances are in a 'strong' position.

It's despite government spending almost £100 million in direct Covid-related support since March.

The MERA unemployment benefit, which ended last month, paid out £5.9 million, whilst £41 million was given out via Salary Support Schemes.
